The Naogaon zone matches of the Walton Inter-district Volleyball Championship began in Naogaon on Tuesday with Pabna and Rajshahi DSAs making good start winning their opening matches.
Deputy Commissioner of hosts Naogaon M Enamul Haque inaugurated the meet at the Naogaon Stadium in the morning.
On the opening day, Pabna DSA beat Joypurhat DSA by straight 25-12, 25-10, 25-8 points while Rajshahi DSA defeated Bogra DSA by 17-25, 25-23, 25-18, 24-26, 16-18 points in a keenly contested match.
A total of 44 teams are taking part in the first phase at seven zonal venues — Naogaon, Habiganj, Narail, Panchagarh, Gazipur, Cox’s Bazar and Barisal.
On completion of the first phase matches in Barisal on March 11, the final round will be held in Dhaka on April 9-15.
