UNB, Dhaka :
All overhead illegal Internet and TV cables that still remained hanging from the electric poles must be removed within next 7 (seven) days in the Dhaka city, else punitive action, including filing of cases, will be taken against the offenders.
This decision was taken at a meeting at the Power Ministry on Thursday with State Minster for Power and Energy Nasrul Hamid in the chair. Representatives of different ministries including Power, Commerce, Information and Telecommunications were present at the meeting.
The meeting was also attended by top executives of Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC), Bangladesh Power Development Board (PDB), Dhaka Power Distribution Company Ltd (DPDC), Dhaka Electric Supply Company Ltd (DESCO), Internet service providers (ISPs), TV Cable Operators’ organization COAB, Fiber@Home, Summit Communications, and BTCL.
After a lengthy discussion, State Minister for Power and Energy directed all the internet service providers and TV cable operators to remove their illegal overhead cables within next seven days.
In case of failure to execute the directive, the State Minister asked the DPDC and DESCO officials to remove all the illegal cables and file cases against the law violators.
Officials said the illegal overhead cables appeared hindering the beautification of Dhaka City.
The meeting found that ISPs, Cable TV operators and the Nationwide Telecommunications Transmission Network (NTTN) are responsible for the illegal overhead cables that sometimes cause accidents.
