City Mayor of Chittagong AJM Nasir Uddin said during his 100 days since his assumption as mayor , he became able to minimise the overall expenditures of the Corporation beside the stability of administrative works and speed in routine works.
He disclosed it while addressing the newsmen at City Corporation Auditorium in observing of the 100 days celebration of mayorship yesterday.
Mayor said, the dynamism of work speed up more than before following regular monitoring of works. He said 31 employees have been sacked from service due to lack in office duties and unauthorized absence of the workers and employees in the meantime.
Besides , overhead expenses in different sectors have also been minimized , he added. He also disclosed that to turn the port city into a livable city as global standard, mass awareness about the haphazard dumping of garbage, wastes should be dealt with seriously.
He said publicity in the mahallas and ward areas undergoing to aware the people about the cleanliness of the city and Tk. 1 crore has been allotted to distribute leaflets , banners and miking in the city areas to aware mass people towards health hazards. He said if the city dwellers decline to obey the directives of the city corporation, penalties as well as suits will be lodged against the violators.
City mayor depicted a pictures of 7 departments of the corporation and their future activities . He said highest priority will be given in health and education. About the questions of journalists regarding occupation of footpaths by the venders, he said he will make alternative arrangement for the small traders after discussions .
He said the road venders will be given scopes of trading in road side in particular time and patticular places not haphazardly in all city roads and the whole day obstructing the movements in footpaths.
City mayor reiterated duties of responsibilities of the corporation and said cleanliness, conservancy, development of roads and lanes and road electrifications are the major tasks of the city corporation. He also mentioned the waterlogging problems of the city and emphasized the constructions of switch gates in the estuary of four city canals linking Karnaphuli River.
He also stressed the need for re-excavation of khals within the city areas for quick delivery of rain water from the city .
Among others, councilors, women reserved councilors, /Chief executive officer, Secretary of CCC and departmental heads were present in the press briefing, sources said.,
