BSS, Jamalpur :
A total of 106734 metric tonnes (mt) of potato has been produced in 5,221 hectares land in this current Rabi season of the district.
According to Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) office sources said the production of 11184 metric tonnes potato is higher than previous year.
The farmers cultivated High Yielding Variety (HYV) potato side by side local variety this year. The HYV potatoes are- Diamant, Asterix, cardinal, Courage and Granola.
DAE office said the production of Diamant has been reached 52140 MT, Asterix 11780 MT, Cardinal 24495 MT, Courage 2520 MT and Granola 4860 MT in this session.
Besides, 10939 MT potatoes were produced from local variety.
Training Officer of DAE, Md Abu Hanif said farmers got 23 MT potato in per hectare of lands from the Cardinal variety while 22 MT came from Diamant, 19 MT from Asterix, 18 MT from Courage and 18 MT from the Granola varieties.
