Over 60,000 evacuated so far

District administration of Chittagong has already evacuated over 60,000 people from costal areas in five upazilas of Chittagong district as cyclonic storm ‘Komen’ poised to cross Chittagong coast by Thursday night.
People in coastal areas have been asked to take shelter in safer place or to go to nearby cyclone shelter centers.
District administration sources said 60,800 people so far have taken shelter at 239 centers in five upazilas – Sandwip, Banshkhali, Anwara, Sitakunda and Mirsarai of the district.
Of them, 9,300 people have taken shelter at 62 cyclone shelter centers in Sandwip, 33,000 at 110 centers in Banshkhali, 8,500 at 20 shelters in Anwara, 4,600 at 20 shelters in Sitakunda and 5,800 people at 27 centers in Mirsarai upazilas.
According to meteorology warning message, maritime ports of Chittagong and Cox’s Bazar have been advised to keep hoisted danger signal number ‘seven’.
The coastal districts of Cox’s Bazar, Chittagong, Noakhali, Laxmipur, Feni, Chandpur, Bhola, and their offshore islands and chars will come under danger signal number ‘seven’, the met office added.
