A total 637 fishermen jailed and fined for violating ban against netting hilsa in six districts of Barishal division in last 15 days.
The 22-day ban starts from early hours of October 7 and would be continued till October 29 imposed for preservation and increase of hilsa wealth on its main breeding season.
Azizur Rahman, assistant director of Barishal divisional fishery office, acknowledging the facts said, total Tk. 8.3 lakhs realized as fine, 20 lakh meters banned fishing nets used for netting hilsa seized and 5.09 thousand kilogramme hilsa also recovered from the fishermen during the drives against hilsa netting in the division in last fifteen days.

During these period total 1213 drives were operated, 656 mobile courts formed and 561 cases lodged to prevent violations against the imposed ban, the fishery official added.
