Over 50 pc work of Padma Bridge completed: Quader

Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader on Wednesday said the overall progress of the much expected Padma Bridge rose to more than fifty percent.
“The main construction work of the bridge has already progressed and additional time would be required for setting up the second span of the bridge,” he said this while inaugurating five new bridges at Srinagar (Chhnabari) on Munshiganj highway this afternoon.
Quader expected that within middle of January the second span of the bridge would be installed, adding, “Our target to complete construction of the Padma Bridge on time.”
He said the government constructed five bridges including sixteen meters long Mostafaganj bridge, twenty-nine meter Randhuni Bari bridge, fourteen- meter Singhpara bridge, eighteen-meter Kola bridge and twenty-three meter long Kusumpur Baganbari Masjid (Malipara) bridge with an outlay of Taka 20 crore.
Besides, twenty-nine vulnerable bailey bridges are being replaced with concrete bridges, the minister added.
He also said that the construction of 15 more bridges will be completed by June 2016 and the remaining nine bridges will be completed by December, 2019.
Quader expressed his hope that by 2020, the construction work of RCC / PCG bridges will be completed in place of all the risky Bailey Bridges under Munshiganj Road Division.
Additional Chief Engineer of Dhaka Zone Abdus Sabur, and Executive Engineer of Munshiganj Mamunur Rashid were present.
