On the occasion of the holy Eid-ul-Azha, more than 50 temporary cattle markets will be set up across Sylhet. Sylhet district administration has approved 52 cattle markets. Most of these cattle markets will sit at the upazila level. There will be three hats in the Sylhet metropolitan, which have been approved by the Sylhet City Corporation (SCC).
It is learned that the district administration sat in a meeting on Wednesday to decide on the Korbani cattle market. Applications from city corporation and upazila level were verified there. After the overall observation, 52 temporary cattle markets were approved. SCC got approval for three of them.
Deputy Director of Sylhet District Local Government Department Mamunur Rashid confirmed the matter.
It is learned that SCC will set up a temporary cattle market at South Surma Truck Terminal in Sylhet, a prisoner’s field in Machimpur area of the city and Kalapathar field in Shahi Eidgah area.
Nur Azizur Rahman, chief engineer of SCC, said, ‘After getting the approval of the three haats, we have issued a tender notice in the newspaper. Today is Thursday, the last day to submit tenders. All the process will be completed in a day or two. Then the animal market will sit. ‘
He said, SCC has sought approval of 6 haats. These are the unused area of South Surma Truck Terminal, Jhalopara school ground, the place next to Rikabibazar passenger cantonment, vacant land at Tilagarh point, Machimpur prisoner ground, ground adjacent to Amberkhana housing, Medina market and area adjacent to Chowkidekhi point. However, after checking the overall situation, three cattle markets have been approved.
There will be 49 temporary cattle markets in all upazila levels of Sylhet. Strict instructions have been given by the government to travel to the animal market in compliance with the health rules.
