Power supply to 5 upazilas in Sunamganj remained suspended since 8: am on Tuesday due to major renovation on the Sunamganj-Chhatak 33 KV transmission line. Over 35,000 subscribers in the district went out of power supply for 9 hours till 5:00 pm.
Thousands of subscribers in the said areas had been suffering much during the last few months due to the worn-out condition of the transmission line, badly hit by the recent storm and rains, official sources informed.
The total number includes 15,000 subscribers in Sunamganj Sadar, 19,000 subscribers in Chhatak Upazila (partial), 9,000 in Derai and Shulla upazilas and 2,000 in Dakshin Sunamganj Upazila. The town dwellers were informed through loudspeaker announcements Monday night about the lengthy shutdown, informed the PDB’s Executive Engineer, Sunamganj Md. Kamruzzaman, who said adding, “We are trying to resume the supply as soon as possible.”
