Information Minister Hasanul Huq Inu said at present more than 2800 newspapers -daily, weekly, fortnightly, monthly, quarterly and half yearly-are being published in the country.
He said this on Tuesday while replying to a written question from treasury bench member Begum Akhter Jahan in the Jatiya Sangsad.
Terming the present government as a media friendly administration, Inu said, the print and electronic media have been flourishing in a massive way and both the sectors are vibrant now.
He also said the government has given registrations and licences to more than 700 newspapers, 31 private TV channels, 24 FM radio stations and 32 community radio stations in the last seven years to ensure the free flow of information.
The government has formulated the ‘National Broadcast Policy, 2014’ for running the print and electronic media neutrally.
