Killing two people in clash: Over 200 villagers sued in Habiganj

Over 200 people have been sued on charge of killing two people during a clash between two groups of villagers at Khatura village in Madhabpur upazila of Habiganj.
The deceased were identified as Jalil Miah, 30, and Rokeya Begum, 23, of the village. Rokeya’s brother Khalilur Rahman filed a case with Madhabpur Police Station, accusing 15 identified and 90 unidentified men on Saturday night.
Saju Miah, father of slain Jalil, filed another case with the police station against 10 named and 90 unnamed people the same night.
According to police and witnesses, an altercation broke out between the supporters of Fazal Miah, 45, of Khatura village and Khalilur Rahman, 42, member of Jagadishpur Union Parishad, and resident of the village, on Wednesday afternoon.
As a sequel to that, the two groups, equipped with lethal weapons, locked in a clash at night that spread through the village and the adjacent areas.
Being informed, police went to the spot and fired 13 rubber bullets and tear gas shells to disperse the feuding groups.
Mullah Monir Hosain, officer-in-charge (OC) of Madhabpur Police Station, said the clash left two people dead and around 20 injured from both sides.
Of the injured, 15 were admitted to Habiganj Sadar Hospital while the rest given first aid. Riot police have been deployed in the area to avert further untoward incident, the OC said.
