Over 2 lakh Saudi Riyal seized in city: 2 held

Customs Intelligence Department and Government Railway Police (GRP) in separate drives seized over 2,04,500 Saudi Riyals from the city’s Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA) and Kamalapur Railway Station on Wednesday. The officials arrested two passengers in this connection.
The arrested persons have been identified as Abdul Hannan Lavlu, a passenger of Malaysian flight, and Md Obaidul Islam, a passenger of Subarna Express Inter-City Train from Chittagong.
Customs Intelligence Department Assistant Commissioner Umme Nahida said that they conducted a drive in the airport area on secret information and intercepted Lavlu while he was crossing the boarding bridge of the airport around 12:30am. They recovered 96,000 Saudi Riayls from his handbag by searching.
She said that Lavlu came from Malaysia to Dhaka by a Malaysia Airlines.
He is being interrogated in this connection, the customs official said.
On the other hand, Kamalapur Railway Station’s Officer-in-Charge (OC) Abdul Majid said that the GRP men conducted a drive in the station area based on information and intercepted Obaidul while he was crossing the No.2 platform of the station around 2:30pm. They recovered 1,08,500 Saudi Riayls from his handbag.
The OC said that he was being interrogated in this connection.
