Vitamin "˜A' Plus Campaign today: Over 12 lakh children will be given vitamin ‘A’ Plus capsules in 3 dists

Nearly 5 lakh children under five years of age will be administered vitamin ‘A’ Plus capsules on today( December 10) in Sylhet district.
The campaign will begin from 8 am and continue uninterruptedly till 4 pm on National Vitamin ‘A’ plus campaign-16. This was disclosed at a press conferences held at Civil Surgeon office by civil surgeon Dr. Habibur Rahman on Thursday.
6860 supervisors in the 12 Upazilas of the district will supervise the ‘A’ Plus campaign. A total of 2,563 temporary vaccination centers will be set up by Sylhet District area to carry out the program.
BSS from Rajshahi reports: More than 3.53 lakh children under five years of age will be administered vitamin ‘A’ Plus capsules on National Vitamin ‘A’ plus campaign-16, today (December 10)in the city and nine upazilas of the district.
The campaign will begin at 8am in 2,240 centres and continue till 4pm.
A total of 1,744 outreach vaccination centres will be set up by Rajshahi Civil Surgeon office.
Rajshahi City Corporation (RCC) will set up 384 centres in 30 wards to carry out the programme.
Over 1,152 volunteers and health workers of RCC would be engaged for giving vitamin ‘A’ Plus capsules to the children aged from zero to 5 years in the city corporation areas.
Besides, 5,486 volunteers and 622 health workers and family welfare assistants will carry out the works in nine upazilas of the district.
RCC and Civil Surgeon Office authorities revealed the information in two separate press conferences here today.
Acting Mayor of RCC Nizam-Ul Azim addressed the press conference, while Ward Councilor Nazma Begum, Chief Executive Officer Dr Sharif Uddin and Chief Health Officer Dr AFM Anzuman Ara Begum provided nessary information.
Deputy Civil Surgeon Dr Farhana Haque and Medical Officers Dr Prodish Kumar Biswash and Dr Farid Hossain and district EPI Superintendent Nur Muhammad addressed their press conference.
The speakers said media support is very important to make the forthcoming July 16 National vitamin ‘A’ plus campaign-2016 a total success.
BSS from Rangpur adds: The district health administration has completed preparations to make second phase of National Vitamin A Plus Campaign for 3.95 lakh children aged between six months and five years successful in the district today.
Civil Surgeon Dr Himangshu Lal Roy disclosed the information at a press briefing arranged at his conference room here on Thursday and sought cooperation of the journalists to make the campaign a success.
The campaign will be conducted under auspices of the Public Health and Nutrition Institute and National Nutrition Services under Ministry of Health and Family Welfare with UNICEF assistance.
The Civil Surgeons said that one dose of one lakh unit Vitamin A Blue capsule would be administered to each of the 40,243 babies (6-11 months) and one dose of two lakh unit Vitamin A Red capsule to each of the 3.55 lakh babies (12-59 months) under the campaign.
“A total of 6,188 health workers, supervisors and volunteers will work at 1,935 centres and special arrangements will be made at bus terminals, rail stations and other places to make the campaign a success,” Dr Lal added.
Representative of UNICEF for Rangpur Abu Mohammad Abdullah and Medical Officer of the Civil Surgeon Office Dr Golam Mostafa also addressed the briefing participated by local journalists from the print, electronic and online media.
Dr Golam Mostafa said that the campaign would be conducted to reduce death risks of babies, save them from blindness caused by shortage of Vitamin A and disseminate knowledge among mass people about nutritional aspects for children.
Abu Mohammad Abdullah narrated importance for continuation of Vitamin A supplementation to ensure healthier growth of the under five babies by preventing mal-nutritional blindness, especially night blindness and corneal lesions.
The health experts sought cooperation of the mass media, parents, public representatives and civil society members to make the National Vitamin A Plus Campaign December 10, 2016 successful in the district.
