The work on first private inland container terminal, river port and special economic zone (SEZ) over 250 acres of land on the bank of Shitalakhha at Dhanga Industrial Zone in Polash Upazila of Narsingdi is progressing fast at an estimate cost of about Tk 1000 crore.
Chairman of A k khan and Company limited A K Shamsuddin Khan said after implementation of the project, it would create over 10000 employment opportunities in the industrial zone.
Managing Director of AK Khan and Company Limited Salahuddin Kashem Khan said, the project was taken in 2007 and purchasing of land for the project began from November 2008. He said in the meantime 200 acres of land have been purchased for the project and purchasing of another 50 acres of land under process.
He further said, the Company also submitted a prayer to the Deputy Commissioner, Narsingdi for taking lease of 12.70 acres land for 99 years at Kazir Char and Koijar s on the bank of river Shitalakhha. He further said the construction of industrial zone in Narsingdi would help to ensure vigorous development of the remote areas.
He said the businessmen of Tongi in Gazipur, Savar and Narsingdi are being transported their garments goods from Dhaka to Chittagong by railway wagon , for this they have to cost a big amount of money and wastage of time to carry their goods. After completion of the proposed project , the businessmen can easily transport their business items Dhaka to Chittagong by the company’s own ship at low cost and it will save time too.
On the other hand , over 10000 people will have got job after implementation of the project. At this it will help to develop the socio-economic condition of the rural people and also help for poverty alleviation.
General Manager of Ak Khan and Company Akter Hossain said, Japanees Ambassador in Bangladesh Shiro Sadoshima after receiving invitation from the Chairman of the AK Khan and Company Ak Shamsuddin for coming with joint venture foreign investment in the project with latest technology then visited the site of proposed Bangladesh’s first private Riverine Inland Container Terminal at Danga in Narsingdi on October-2012 and said Japan is planning to make large investments in a number of Asian countries including Bangladesh, Vietnam, and China and said Bangladesh will get first priority in getting the Japanese investment.
The then local MP Anwarul Ashraf Khan Dilip,Councilor for Economic Development Cooperation Masayuki Taga, Senior representatives of JIKAhiroyuki Tomita and Upazila Nirbahi Officer of Polash Shaila yesmin also visited the projects.
Dr Anwarul Ashraf khan said, the inland container terminal would help making transportation of export-import products easier particularly for industrial zones in the north-western part of the country
Later the JapaneseEmbassador Shiro sadoshima had a meeting with the top officials of AK Khan and Company limited and congratulate the industrial zone. He showed his keen interest on the project.
He assured them that the Japanese government will invest fund in this project. He also request JICA and JETRO to take immediate measures to ensure Japanese investment tn this industrial zone.
It may mention here that after completion the Inland container terminal, the businessmen then easily transport goods from Dhaka to Chttagong through burge contrainer bythe river way.
