Our Correspondent, Chandpur :
Over 100 illegal shops were evicted from both sides of Chandpur-Laksham Railway track from morning till afternoon on Wednesday in Chandpur town.
An eviction team from LakshamJunction led by Kanungo Kaosar Hamid along with two land surveyors evicted these illegal structures in two mile areas from Chandpur Rly Station area. The team was assisted by Chandpur Railway Police team led by OC Sarwar Alam, Chandpur Land Officer Abul Kalam and Chandpur Rly Station’s Station Master Shoyeb Shikder.
Ahead of the official visit of GIBR, and other top officials inChandpur area, this eviction drive was arranged, although many have termed it as ‘an eye wash”.
These illegal shops were erected during the last few years in collusion with the local Rly officials-said sources.
Still there are so many illegal structures on both sides of the Rly track at Bokultola Road area and Chandpur Court Station area in the town. As a result, many people have to face death often under running trains because, due to these illegal shops beside the track, pedestrians cannot see the running train clearly from distance nor they can hear the train’s arrival along the curved Rly track.
An estimate shows that during the last 12/13 years’ time, as many as 27 people were killed under the running train at these spots in Chandpur town-alleged many local eyewitnesses. Eviction drive at these two dreadful places is urgently needed, strongly feel many.
Chandpur Rly Land Officer Abul Kalamhas told this correspondent “Illegal structures and shops at Bokultola Road and Court Station area will be evicted soon as per list”.
Conscious peopleare looking forward to it.
