Over 1.46 lakh poor and distressed families have been brought under Vulnerable Group Feeding (VGF) programme in Rajshahi district to mark the end of Ramadan and celebration of the upcoming holy Eid-ul-Fitr festival.
Under the specialised VGF programme, 1,462 tonnes of rice are being distributed among the beneficiary families in nine upazilas and 14 pourasavas (municipalities) in the district.
Each of the beneficiaries is getting 10-kg of rice this time according to the list prepared earlier. Meanwhile, distribution of rice has been complete in Mohanpur Upazila and is progressing fast in other upazilas.
The government through the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief has allocated the huge quantity of rice in the district.
As per direction and supervision of the district administration, the concerned upazila administrations with the assistances of local public representatives and union level committees have been distributing the rice among the listed VGF Card holder families.
District Relief and Rehabilitation Officer (DRRO) Mojibur Rahman told BSS that distribution of VGF rice will be completed soon so that the beneficiary poor and distressed families could celebrate the Eid-ul-Fitr festivity.
Respective union parishads prepared the list of the distressed people in their areas and rice was distributed with approval of the concerned UNOs, Mojibur added.
“We are very much hopeful about successful distribution of the VGF rice on time,” said Khalid Hassan, UNO of Godagari upazila.
Tanore UNO Muniruzzaman Bhuiyan said as per the directives of the DC necessary measures were taken to distribute the VGF rice to the beneficiaries of the upazila before Eid.
Deputy commissioner Mejbah Uddin Chowdhury said instructions were given to the upazila nirbahi officers (UNOs) along with project implementation officers (PIOs) to distribute the rice to the beneficiaries smoothly within a very short time. “We are very much conscious about the quantity and quality of rice being distributed,” He added.
Participation of more people in uplift activities stressed: Speakers at a pre-iftar view-sharing meeting with journalists here recently said importance should be given on more peoples involvement in the government’s success achievement and development thinking.

The discussants mentioned that the country at present is progressing fast in every sector, especially in improving foreign policy, ICT, food production, power generation and distribution, education, women empowerment, foreign remittance earning, GDP and per capita income. Now the country has become a rice-exporting instead of importing one.
