The cultivation of winter vegetables is going on in full swing in seven upazilas of the district aimed at producing over one lakh tonnes during the current winter season.
DAE sources said under the programme, a total of 7,812 hectares of land would be brought under the cultivation with the production target of 1, 40,616 tonnes of winter vegetables.
The DAE sources said Singair upazila of the district is famous for winter season vegetables. The soil of the district is suitable for producing huge quantity of vegetables including cabbage, cauliflower, tomato, bean, radish, guard, cucumber and sweet potato.
The sources said the target of cultivation of vegetables has been exceeding every year in the district as the farmers show their interest to cultivate vegetables in their lands.
Deputy Director of DAE M Alimuzzaman Miah said the field level workers of the DAE have started rendering their services to let the vegetable cultivators know about the modern methods of vegetable cultivation to achieve the best yielding rate of the vegetables through lower production costs.
