A regional member of the outlawed Purba Banglar Communist Party (ML) was killed in a ‘gunfight’ with police at Dhopakhala in Phultala upazila early Tuesday.
The deceased was identified as Monirul Islam Sheikh, 32, son of Abdus Sattar Sheikh of Damadar village in the upazila.
Sources at Phultala thana said a team of police in a drive arrested Monirul from Kalia upazila headquarters of Narail district around 12pm on Monday.
Later, police along with Monirul launched a drive in Dhopakhala area beside Beel Dakatia around 2.40am on Tuesday to recover firearms from the area.
