A leader of an outlaw party named Biplobi communist party was killed in a gunfight with police at Mukteswari area in Phultala Upazila of Khulna district in the early hours on Tuesday.
The deceased was identified as Billal Hossain, son of Ayub Ali, hailed from village Jugnipasha in the same upazila.
Police said, acting on a tip off , police raided in the area around 1.20am on Tuesday as police got an information that extremist party (Biplobi communist party) leader Billal along with his associates were preparing to commit robbery in the area. Sensing the presence of the law enforcers, the extremist gang hurled bombs targeting police pick up. Police also retaliated to escape themselves and a gun battle occurred while Billal died in the spot after 20 minutes gunfight. Four policemen were also injured during the gunfight.
Police recovered one shutter gun. two round of bullets and four bombs from the scene.
