IT’S almost a month since Myanmar has started to push Rohingya Muslims illegally into Bangladesh; creating a burden for an economically weaker country like ours. Our government waiting eagerly for the international power houses to act quickly and solve the problem for us. But all our so-called proven friends like India, China and Russia have taken the side of Myanmar. Decision made by Russia and India is even more shocking for us as these two countries helped us a great deal during our independence. Our government claimed that relationship with India has reached a new height during their tenure. If that is the case then why do not they help us at such a crucial stage?
It is true that we have shed a lot of blood and fought bravely for our independence but without the diplomacy of Indira Gandhi it won’t have been possible as most of the world did not even recognize the crime committed by Pakistan Army and said that it was their internal problem. Diplomacy and war both should go in the favour of a nation to make them capable of surviving. During 1971, Indira travelled to USA, UK, Europe, Russia and every other place to show the world the true picture of the war crime committed by the Pakistan Army. Now we are at the same position were India was in 1971 and our Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is in the place of Indira Gandhi. India had an interest in 1971 to weaken Pakistan Army for good by helping us to gain independence but now they have no interest to help us. Myanmar is a new market to sell weapons and nobody would want to take action against them. But we must solve the Rohingya problem as we cannot help them to stay in our country for too long.
Our Prime Minister repeatedly telling the world media that if we can feed 160 million people we can also feed 1 million extra people. But this is not any intelligent statement, is it? This is not a policy against forcing nearly ten lakhs of people on us by Myanmar military. Bangladesh itself is facing food crisis. The Prime Minister cannot think of any other way then how to follow the line of India. After meeting President of the United States Donald Trump she said, we cannot rely on the United States. But the Foreign Secretary Md Shahidul Haque at a press conference gave a different version. According to him the US will be on our side.
Three Muslim countries Turkey, Malaysia and Indonesia have already criticized Myanmar. Now our government must send diplomats to other countries as well to get their support. Obviously we won’t get support from all of them, but we must try to get support from as many countries as possible and we have to do it quickly. If required we may need armed support as this situation may get worse.
