Nagorik Oikya
A discussion organised by Nagorik Oikya, Dhaka Mahanagar (North) was held in the city’s Mirpur on Tuesday. In the programme the speakers demanded immediate release of its Convenor Mahmudur Rahman Manna. They also called upon all to build national unity against communalism and extremism to save the country. The function was addressed, among others, by Adviser of the organisation SM Akram, its central member Shahidullah Kaiser, Coordinator of Nagorik Juba Oikya Shahinul Alam, Convenor of Nagorik Chhatra Oikya Nazmul Hasan. Principal Mohammad Ishaq presided over the event.
Swadhinata Shikshak Parishad
A human chain organised by Swadhinata Shikshak Parishad (SSP), an organisation of teachers was held in the city on Tuesday as part of its month-long anti-militancy programme. Students, teachers, guardians and people from all walks of life took part in the human chain against militancy. A 10-kilometer human chain was formed from Malibagh to Khilkhet flyover. Thousands of people joined the human chain braving rains. Dhaka City (North) Awami League President and Chairman of Parliamentary Standing Committee on Information Ministry AKM Rahmatullah, MP attended the programme as the chief guest while General Secretary of the parishad and Teachers-Employees Welfare Trust Member Secretary Principal M Shajahan Alam Saju was present as the special guest. In the human chain the speakers bitterly criticized the brutal attacks in Holey Artisan Bakery in the city’s Gulshan and Sholakia Eidgah ground. They called upon all to be united to root out extremism and communalism from the country.
