A rally organised by Bangladesh Students’ Union, Dhaka Mahanagar Sangsad was held recently in front of Jatiya Press Club in the city. In the rally the speakers bitterly criticized the admission trade in HSC classes in different government colleges in the city. They urged the authority concerned including Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid to take necessary steps against it, otherwise they will forge greater movement against this irregularities. The programme was addressed, among others, by General Secretary of the organisation GM Gilani Shuva, its Vice-President Dipak Shil, Organising Secretary Jawaharlal Roy and Joint Convenor of Titumir College Sangsad Pritam Fakir. President of the organisation Anik Roy presided over the function.
Bangalee Sangskritik Jote
A roundtable discussion on ‘Cultural movement to resist terrorism and militancy’ organised by Bangalee Sangskritik Jote was held in the VIP Lounge of Jatiya Press Club in the city on Thursday. Awami League Publicity and Publication Secretary Dr Hasan Mahmud was present as the chief guest. While speaking Hasan said BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia is launching movement against terrorism with terrorists as she has ally with religious extremists. “You (Khaleda) should at first leave anti-liberation war force Jamaat and apologize to the nation for carrying out killings and sabotage, then you can take decision of waging anti-terrorism movement,” he told. Hasan said terrorism and militancy is not a problem for Bangladesh alone, rather it is a global crisis. “Our cultural practice played a pivotal role in the Liberation War in 1971. But that cultural practices are very little in the society now,” he added and called for waging social movement against the terrorism and militancy. The programme was also addressed, among others, by Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr AAMS Arefin Siddique, Film actor Faruk Ahmed, cultural personality Enamul Haque, Poet Rabindra Gope, Swadhin Bangla Betar Kendro artistes Manoranjan Ghoshal and Abdul Jabbar.
