Nadi Raksha Jote

A discussion on ‘Role of Mass Media to Protect River and Environment’ organised jointly by Nadi Raksha Jote and Nongor was held at the Jatiya Press Club on Thursday with a call to announce May 23 as the National River Safety Day. Information Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud was present as the chief guest in the programme. While speaking Hasan called for building united resistance against river encroachment and pollution. The minister said illegal establishment on the riverbanks of Buriganga and Karnaphuli has already been removed and this drive will continue in future to save the rivers. The function was also addressed, among others, by Chairman of National River Conservation Commission Dr Mujibur Rahman Howlader and Chairman of Poribesh Banchao Andolon Abu Naser. President of Nongor Sumon Shams presided over the event.

Nakalia Foundation

The Dhaka based Nakalia Foundation has been formed recently for the welfare, health and education in particular, of the people of the greater Nakalia which is in Haturia Nakalia Union under Bera thana of Pabna district. A 22 member committee was formed in a city hotel with celebration, says a press release. The committee includes Abdul Hakim Sarker and Md. Hasmot Ali as President and General Secretary respectively. Haji Imdadul Haque and Md. Amirul Uslam are the Senior Vice-President and the Finance Secretaries among others. The lone office-bearer has been Amena Rahman for the post of Women Affairs Secretary.
