Founder of Jatiya Sramik Dhara Momin Mehedi, its Acting President Hasanul Haq Inu and General Secretary Haridas Sarker in a joint statement on Wednesday expressed deep condolence over the death of former General Secretary of Jatiya Sramik League and President of United Federation of Garment Workers Roy Ramesh Chandra. They extended profound sympathy to the members of bereaved family and prayed for the salvation of the departed soul.

A memorial meeting for noted singer Subir Nandi organised by Bangladesh Cultural Reporters’ Association was held at a hotel in the city. In the programme held on Wednesday Information Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud was present as the chief guest. While speaking Hasan said noted singer and composer Subir Nandi will remain alive in the hearts of country’s people through his songs. The minister said legendary singer Subir Nandi sang more than 2,500 songs in his career. Hasan prayed for salvation of the departed soul of Subir and conveyed deep sympathy to members of the bereaved family. The function was also addressed, among others, by former Finance Minister AMA Muhith, former President of the Jatiya Press Club Muhammad Shafiqur Rahman, MP, BFUJ President Molla Jalal, DUJ President Abu Jafar Surja and Sammilita Sangskritik Jote President Golam Quddus. President of the association Avi Chowdhury presided over the event.
