Rural Women Development Center
A seminar organised by Rural Women Development Center, Kurigram unit was held at the Jatiya Press Club in the city on Tuesday. Information Minister Hasanul Haq Inu was present as the chief guest. While speaking Inu said that militancy and terrorism were enemies of women’s empowerment. “They want to subjugate women and make them second- class citizens,” he added. He further said that women could only be empowered if four strategic conditions were met. The terms are right to property, education, work and access to power. Inu said that women must discard superstition and bigotry and gain access to the fountainheads of power. President of the organisation Beauty Rani presided over the programme.
Bangladesh Students’ Union
President and General Secretary of Bangladesh Students’ Union Laki Aktar and GM Gilani Shuva in a joint statement demanded changing of station and route of the Metrorail Project through Dhaka University (DU) campus. It may be mentioned that a section of students of DU already forged a movement to change the route of the Metrorail Project. They called upon the Government to meet the demands of DU students with a view to maintaining the congenial atmosphere of the university. The leaders also warned the Government to forge greater students’ movement if their demand is not met properly.
