Dhaka Ahsania Mission
The Bureau of Non -Formal Education was formally given the Chand Sultana Award 2018 by the State Minister of the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education Md. Zakir Hossain, MP on Saturday . Director General of the Bureau Tapan Kumar Ghosh received the award on behalf of the Bureau. The programme was held at DAM auditorium, Dhanmondi of the capital city. In his speech as Chief Guest, the State Minister paid homage to the founder of Dhaka Ahsania Mission Khan Bahadur Ahsanullah. The Minister also said, we wanted to live in a secular Bangladesh composed of people the all beliefs and religions which Khan Bahadur Ahsanullah could realize earlier. He further said, Dhaka Ahsania Mission is now filling the need of a skilled and educated manpower successfully. He thanked DAM for Awarding Non-formal Education Bureau. He said, the Ministry was pledged bound to educate the drop-out and the illiterate mothers. He sought cooperation of all concerned in doing this gigantic task. Tapan Kumar Ghosh in his speech as Special Guest said, the definition of literacy was changed now. Only putting a signature no more constitute literacy. One must know reading, writing and basic math in order to be literate.
Junior Chamber International (JCI)
 Junior Chamber International (JCI) organised the second volume of project vision and provided free eye tests to over 1000 drivers recently . Shohoz, the fastest growing ride-sharing company in Bangladesh, was a partner in this charitable cause. Riders from Shohoz got a priority lane for eye testing. The free eye checkup took place in Syeda Bus Station. The free eye treatment was provided by specialists from the National Institute of Ophthalmology & Hospital (NIOH). Drivers with basic vision troubles will get free glasses from Fashion Optics Ltd. For severe cases, patients will be treated at the National Institute of Ophthalmology & Hospital for free. Maliha Quadir, founder and MD, Shohoz said, “Frequency of road accidents are at an all-time high in Bangladesh. We are hoping to improve the quality of life of the drivers hoping that it would lead to safer roads for all the people of Bangladesh. JCI has conducted a field survey of 400+ bus drivers, passengers and eye specialists, and professionals working with BRTA. The results revealed that, approximately, 95% of drivers have eye issues, as they usually work for over 12 hours daily.. The aim of Project Vision Vol 2.0 was to raise awareness about the importance of vision fitness of drivers. The partners of JCI has been Shohoz, United Nations, Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA), and Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP).
Ovibashi Karmi Unnayan Programme (OKUP)
Ovibashi Karmi Unnayan Programme (OKUP) called upon the government to bring vulnerable migrant workers, especially women migrant workers under the National Social Security Strategy (NSSS) in the upcoming national budget of 2019-20, says a press release. To place this demand OKUP is going to organise a pre-budget discussion titled “Ovibashir Budget” at BIAM Auditorium at 10 am on April 10. Hundreds of returnee migrant workers from different districts will attend this discussion. Deputy Speaker of Bangladesh National Parliament Adv Fazle Rabbi Mia will grace the ceremony as Chief Guest. “The state has a responsibility to care for the migrant workers who send around $ 15 billion every year as remittances. So the government must spend at least 2% of the total remittances for the welfare of migrant workers,” he added. For the last three years, OKUP has been organizing this pre-budget discussion.
