Bangladesh Hawkers Union
A rally organised by Bangladesh Hawkers Union was held in front of the Jatiya Press Club on Sunday. In the programme the leaders of the organisation bitterly criticised the eviction of hawkers from the city’s footpath. They urged the government to take necessary steps for rehabilitation of the hawkers before their eviction. The function was addressed, among others, by General Secretary of the union Sekendar Hayat, President of Bangladesh Krishak Samity Advocate SMA Sabur, Vice-President of Bangladesh Trade Union Kendra Mahbubul Alam and President of Garment Sramik Trade Union Kendra Advocate Montu Ghosh. President of the union Abdul Hashem Kabir presided over the event.
Bangladesh Labour Federation
The biennial conference of Bangladesh Labour Federation was held at the VIP Lounge of the Jatiya Press Club in the city. State Minister for Labour and Employment Begum Monnujan Sufian was present as the chief guest in the programme held recently. While speaking Monnujan said labourers should be aware about the Labour Act to enhance their dignity. “Workers should be more aware of the labor laws rather than their rights. This will increase their dignity,” she added. The State Minister advised the workers to know the Labour Act to avert illogical movements. “We respect their movements, but their movements must be logical and according to the Bangladesh Labour Act,” she added. Mentioning the present government as labor-friendly, she said the government will do everything to improve the quality of workers’ life. The function was also addressed, among others, by Jatiya Sramik League President Shukkur Mahmud and General Secretary of the federation Advocate Delwar Hossain Khan.
