Bangladesh Progressive Writers’ Assoc
A meeting organised by Bangladesh Progressive Writers’ Association was held at Somen-Tajul Library of Muktibhaban in the city’s Purana Palton on Friday. In the meeting the decision to hold national council of the association on March 15 was taken unanimously. In the council the progressive writers of the country will present. General Secretary of the association Poet Sakhawat Tipu presented the report of general secretary. President of the association Poet Golam Kibria Pinu presided over the event. In the function a 101-membr preparatory committee for the council was formed with Shamsuzzaman Hira as Chairman.
DU Botany Alumni Association
The reunion and annual general meeting of Dhaka University Botany Alumni Association was held on Curzon Hall premises of the university. Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Akhtaruzzaman was present as the chief guest in the programme held recently. While speaking Akhtaruzzaman called upon the alumni to play an effective role in promoting academic career of current students of the university. He recalled the outstanding contributions of alumni of the university to socio-economic development in the country. The function was also addressed, among others, by Dhaka University Alumni Association President AK Azad, Dean of the Faculty of Biological Sciences Prof Dr M Imdadul Hoque, Chairman of the Department of Botany of the university Prof Dr Rakha Hari Sarker and General Secretary of the association Prof Dr Md Abul Bashar. President of the association Prof Dr Quazi Abdul Fattah presided over the event.
