Lobbi Rahman’s Cooking Foundation
The grand finale of Whirlpool Cake Festival was held at RAOWA Convention Hall on Saturday. Best Electronics, in association with Lobbi Rahman’s Cooking Foundation organised the nationwide cake competition and festival. Eminent scholar Dr. Muhammed Zafar Iqbal graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. Amit Raturi, Country Manager of Whirlpool Corporation, Syed Ashhab Zaman and Syed Tahmid Zaman, Directors of Best Electronics were also present. From nine different region of Bangladesh, four participants who previously won YES CARDS in their respective districts were invited to the grand finale of the competition. Afnan Zayedi from Dhaka, Latifa Akhtar from Chattogram, and Afroja Ahmed from Jashore were the top three winners. At a grand prize-giving ceremony, Dr. Muhammed Zafar Iqbal handed over the prize money to the winners.
Notre Dame University Bangladesh English Club
Notre Dame University Bangladesh English Club (NDUBEC) organised a seminar on contemporary world poetry entitled ‘Adda de Poetica’ on Saturday . This programme was a part of the Dhaka International Poet Summit 2019 which was organised by Kathak. Prof Dr Fr Patrick Daniel Gaffney, CSC, VC of NDUB, Fr Adam S Pereira, CSC, Registrar, Fr. Tom McDermott, CSC, Director, English Language Center, Dr Br Leo J Pereira, CSC, Deputy Controller of Examinations were present in the programme. Foreign poets Kama Kamanda from Congo, Dr Tianxin Cai from China, Claire Booker from the UK, Dr Ali Al-Shalah from Iraq were also present . The programme initiated with a few welcoming words from Prof Dr Fr Patrick Daniel Gaffney, CSC. hroughout the seminar, the poets shared their poems based on various contexts such as war, love, poverty, and success. At the end of the poetry session an adda (informal discussion) session was organised where the students voiced their queries to the poets in a panel discussion and the poets provided answers through their insightful array of inter-cultural knowledge and experience. The seminar winded down with a vote of thanks on behalf of NDUB and NDUBEC delivered by Fr Adam S Pereira, CSC.
It was organized by NDUB English Club moderator and co-moderator Habiba Akter and Ahmed Tahsin Shams respectively who are faculties of the department of English at NDUB, says a press release.
