Save The Environment Movement
A human chain organised by Save The Environment Movement was formed in front of Dhaka Central Jail in the city on Tuesday. In the programme the speakers demanded to preserve historical establishments of the jail properly as it is being shifted to Keraniganj. The event was addressed, among others, by Joint General Secretary of the organisation Hafizur Rahman Mayna, President of Marshal Art Foundation Atik Morshed, President of Modern Club Abul Hasnat and President of Debidas Ghat Samaj Kalyan Sangsad Mohammad Musa. General Secretary of the organisation Engineer Abdus Sobhan presided over the function.
Dhaka Union of Journalists
A discussion meeting organised by Dhaka Union of Journalists (DUJ) was held at its office of Jatiya Press Club in the city on Tuesday marking Journalist Repression Day. In the meeting journalist leaders demanded payment of salaries and festival bonus and formation of the ninth wage board before the Eid-ul-Fitr. Prime Minister’s Media Adviser Iqbal Sobhan Chowdhury was present as the chief guest. While speaking Iqbal Sobhan called for ensuring security of journalists and said maintaining objectivity in the activities of journalists is not possible amid insecurity. He urged the journalists to maintain strong unity among themselves and remain alert so that no evil force can hinder their movement for bread and butter and professional rights. Moderated by DUJ General Secretary Sohel Haider Chowdhury, the meeting was also addressed, among others, by Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalist (BFUJ) Secretary General Omar Faruque and former Secretary General Abdul Jalil Bhuiyan. DUJ President Shaban Mahmud presided over the programme.
Urdu Speaking Minority Council
A discussion and Iftar Mahfil organised by Indian Origin Urdu Speaking Minority Council was held recently at its central office in the city. In the programme, leaders of the council demanded of the government for adequate allocation in the national budget 2016-17 for the council for education, medical and housing facilities. They sought government’s intervention for the welfare of Urdu speaking people.The programme was was presided over by the President of the Council Mohammad Shamim. It was addressed, among others, by Vice-President of the council Golam Rasul, Secretary General Mohammad Afzal Oarsi, Treasurer Mohammad Sulaiman, Women Affairs Secretary Baby Parveen, Office Secretary Mohammad Mintu Oarsi and its Publicity Secretary Ful Miah.
