The Vice-Chancellor of Bangladesh University of Health Sciences Prof. (Dr.) Faridul Alam attended the scientific seminar on “New Era of Thyroid Nodule Treatment” at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSSMU) on Wednesday, says a press release. Prof. (Dr.) Faridul Alam who is also the Secretary General of Bangladesh Thyroid Association said , thyroid nodules are common conditions that can largely remain asymptomatic. Occasionally, these can cause symptoms and require treatment. About one in five cases of thyroid nodule are diagnosed as cancer.In many cases surgery is unnecessary as nearly thirty percent nodules are of uncertain types.He emphasized on the new image-guided procedures and technique for the treatment of thyroid nodules. Theseprocedures are safe and effective for the patients.Bangladesh Thyroid Society is making awareness among general population about thyroid diseases.
