Thirty nine central level political leaders of Awami League, BNP and Jatiya Party have been recognised by Democracy International. The leaders were awarded at hotel in the city for their achievements in championing peaceful and participatory election. Prime Minister’s Political Affairs Advisor H T Imam was present as the chief guest in the award giving ceremony held recently. While speaking HT Imam said, “This `Champion of Peace’ award will inspire political leaders to foster the spirit of peaceful elections. Such peace building processes should occur frequently.” Since launching of the ‘Shantite Bijoy’ campaign, the leaders have paved the way for party leaders and activists to participate in constructive multiparty events across Bangladesh including peace rallies, face to face dialogues between candidates and voters, multiparty roundtable meetings and workshops to address citizens’ issues. BNP Standing Committee member Dr. Abdul Moyeen Khan and Jatiya Party leader Ziauddin Bablu were present, among others, on the occasion.
