INCIDIN Bangladesh

Civil Society members called for the inclusion of NGOs in the government’s service structure for preventing violence against women and children, including human trafficking. “If the NGOs are included, they can jointly take part in the activities aimed at protecting the rights of women and children along with the government”, said Advocate Rafiqual Islam Khan, Manager (legal and policy support) of INCIDIN Bangladesh. While presenting the keynote paper at the meeting, he said Women Department is now running a toll-free national helpline, 109, 1098 by Social Service Department, and National Legal Aid running another helpline, 16430, to provide services to oppressed women and children. It would bring a better result if the NGOs, which have vast experience in the sector, can be engaged in the services across the country, he said, stressing on the integrated approach for protecting the rights of the country’s vast number of people. INCIDIN Bangladesh, on behalf of Prevention of Child Trafficking through Strengthening Community and Networking (PCTSCN) Consortium, organized the views exchange meeting at CIRDAP auditorium in the capital today (October 16). Dr. Abul Hossain, deputy secretary of Women and Children Affairs Ministry, attended it as the chief guest. Chaired by AKM Masud Ali, executive director of INCIDIN Bangladesh, Alamgir Hossain, senior assistant judge and district Legal Aid Officer, Prof. Dr. Kamal Uddin of Psychology department of Dhaka University, Dr. Akhil Poddar, Head of Input, Ekushey Television, among others, spoke at the programme.

Bangladesh University of Professionals (BUP) organized a seminar titled “Climate Change Concern: Bangladesh Perspective” on Tuesday by the Department of Environmental Science under Faculty of Science and Technology at Bijoy Auditorium on its campus. The seminar was organized to discuss about the impact of climate change on Bangladesh and the possible adaptation strategies of the people of Bangladesh. Following seminar, Sena LPG-BUP Environmental Fest 2018 held at BUP concourse. The fest was inaugurated to create environmental awareness among the students. In the seminar, Anwar Hossain Manju, MP, e Minister, Ministry of Water Resources, People’s Republic of Bangladesh was present as the chief guest. BUP VC Major General MD Emdad-Ul-Bari, ndc, psc, te and Pro-VC Professor M Abul Kashem Mozumder, PhD were present as the special guests. Dr Ainun Nishat, Professor Emeritus, Brac University presented the keynote papers. Among others, BUP high officials, faculty members and students were present at the seminar.

Shanto-Mariam Foundation

 Shanto-Mariam Foundation has organised a solo painting exhibition of world renowned artist Shahabuddin Ahmed at ‘Creative the Art Gallery’ of the Foundation from September 30 for the visitors. The exhibition will be opened every day from 10 am to 8 pm. There were 25 drawings and 7 paintings in total 32 exhibits displayed in the exhibition. The month- long exhibition will conclude on October 27. Indian High Commissioner in Bangladesh Harsh Vardhan Shringla was present as Chief Guest and Inaugurated the Exhibition on 29 September 2018. The opening speech was given by Artist Nasim Ahmed Nadvi and Mainuddin Khaled. The founder chairman of Shanto-Mariam Foundation Freedom Fighter Md Imamul Kabir Shanto given the note of thanks in the occasion. The event was coordinated by renowned signer Lily Islam.
