Stressing on the role of Members of Parliament (MPs) in preventing children trafficking, civil society members called for their active involvement in order to speed up the anti-trafficking activities in the country. “As per the Prevention and Suppression of Human Trafficking Act 2012, MPs are supposed to act as the advisor of district level Counter Trafficking Committee (CTC), but almost all the MPs are unaware of the duties under the Act, which mainly resulted in inaction of the CTC”. Adv Rafiqual Islam Khan, Manager (Legal and Policy Support) of INCIDIN Bangladesh, said this while presenting the keynote paper at a meeting at a local restaurant at Segun Bagicha in the city yesterday. Community Participation and Development (CPD) and Nari Maitree, on behalf of Prevention of Child Trafficking through Strengthening Community and Networking (PCTSCN) Consortium, jointly organised view exchange meeting supported by TdH-Netherlands. Adv Hosne Ara Lutfa MP, Member , Parliamentary Standing Committee on Post, Telecommunications and ICT Affairs Ministry, attended as Chief Guest. Chaired by Moslema Bari, Executive Director of CPD, Prof Dr Kamal Uddin Ahmed of Psychology Department , Dhaka University, Rabiul Islam, Deputy Director , National Human Rights Commission, Ziaul Hasan Zia, Special Public Prosecutor of Women and Children Court, Rangpur, also spoke, says a press release.

The Council of the Institute of Chartered Secretaries of Bangladesh (ICSB) elected Safiar Rahman FCS as its new Sr. Vice-President on Saturday, says a press release. Rahman is working as Deputy Managing Director (DMD) and Company Secretary of Eastern Bank Limited (EBL). Mr. Rahman started his career in the-then BOL, later on changed to BOC (Bangladesh) Limited, a British MNC, thereafter joined ICI Group another British MNC which was changed to ACI Group in Bangladesh as Chief Accountant, he then worked in few other local Group Companies including some NBFIs and local Conglomerate Sun Man Group as General Manager, Dhaka. He has over 35years’ experience in the field of Finance/Accounting and Corporate Affairs. He has been associated with EBL as Company Secretary since 2002. He is a Fellow Member (FCS), a Council Member and the present Chairman of Education Committee, ICSB. He attended a number of training/seminars and conferences both at Home and Abroad (Asia, Europe and Australia), says a press release.
