International quiz competition on ‘Surakshit Khadya Abhiyan : Asia Qiuz Competition on Food Safety 2018’ Bangladesh Round was held at 71 Milonayoton of Daffodil International University yesterday. Organised by the Department of Nutrition and Food Engineering, DIU. Mr. Shahabuddin Ahmed, Secretary, Ministry of Food inaugurated the competition as Chief Guest while Mohammad Mahfuzul Hoque, Additional Secretary and Chairman, Bangladesh Food Safety Authority (BFSA) was present as special guest. Presided over by Prof Dr. Yousuf Mahbubul Islam, VC , Daffodil International University, the programme was also addressed by Sanjay Dave, Chairman of Surakshit Khadya Abhiyan, India; Prof Dr. S M Mahbub Ul Haque Majumdar, Pro Vice Chancellor, DIU, Professor Dr Ahmad Ismail Mustafa, Dean, Faculty of Allied Health Science, Professor Dr Md. Bellal Hossain, Professor and Head, Department of Nutrition and Food Engineering and Dr. Amir Ahmed, DIU. Almost 12 Universities and Polytechnic Institution with Daffodil International University and 24 participants attended this regional competition of Surakshit Khadya Abhiyan: Asia Qiuz Competition on Food Safety. The winner participant of this round will get opportunity to attend the Grand Finale at New Delhi of India. The final round will be held on 15th December, 2018 where 163 students from 13 countries of Asia including India, China, Nepal and Bangladesh will participate. Chief Guest Mr. Shahabuddin Ahmed said that the principle ingredient of lives is food. Some food we get by natural way and some of by industrial way. But mixing chemical in food is a common allegation we found everywhere. Need to change this scenario. Special guest Mohammad Mahfuzul Hoque said that admixture in food is spreading as epidemic form. Young people should come forward for challenging this problem. Because, young people can create countrywide awareness.

The Department of Mechanical Engineering of the International University of Business Agriculture and Technology (IUBAT) organised the first seminar on research activities by faculty members at IUBAT Conference Hall recently. In this seminar, the focus was on the seminal work published by Assistant Prof Dr. Md. Zillur Rahman. The topic of the presentation was “Influence of Damping on the Bending and Twisting Modes of Flax Fibre-reinforced Polypropylene Composite”. The Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr. Abdur Rab was present as Chief Guest, and the Pro Vice-Chancellor Brig. Gen. (Retd.) Dr. Md. Zahid Hossain was also present as special guest in the seminar. The program was presided over by Professor Dr. A Z A Saifullah, Chair, Department of Mechanical Engineering and the welcome speech by Professor Engr. Abdul Wadud, Coordinator, Department of Mechanical Engineering. The seminar was concluded after delivering the vote of thanks speech by Dr. Muammer Din Arif, says a press release.
