University Grants Commission (UGC)
A day-long familiarization event on ‘German-Bangladesh Higher Education Network for Sustainable Textiles (HEST) was jointly organised by University Grants Commission (UGC) of Bangladesh and Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) at UGC yesterday, says a press release. The event was arranged to share information about HEST project objectives among its stakeholders. HEST project aims at reducing the skill gap of mid-level managers in textile and Ready-Made Garments (RMG) sectors in Bangladesh. Ministry of Education, UGC and GIZ are jointly implementing this project. The project has successfully developed three university partnerships with four German and eight Bangladeshi universities, which includes Hof University of Applied Sciences, Chemnitz University of Technology, Dresden University of Technology, University of Stuttgart from German side and Ahsanullah University of Science and Technology, Asian University for Women, Bangladesh University of Textiles, BGMEA University of Fashion and Technology, Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology, North South University, Notre Dame University Bangladesh and University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh.

National Front of Teachers & Employees organized a discussion meeting at its central office at Green Road ,Farmgate in the city yesterday afternoon to highlight issues they consider vital for the coming budget in regard to education particularly. Their list of expectations includes enhanced allocation in education prioritising development of learners, students and congenial infrastructure of educational institutions in line with Bangladesh National Education Policy2010 and SDG 4 of the United Nations with the aim to ensure quality education, Earmark 6% of GDP and 20% of total budget and appropriate fund for library and laboratory of educational institutions. 4. Creation of special fund for the students and teachers having records of innovation , enterprenuership and research work. 5.Full pension, recreation ,festival allowance for teachers of Education Board and University approved non-govt. teachers at par with their govt counterparts as they they teachin the same syllabus having same academic qualification,6. Provision of monthly pay ( MPO ) for the eligible teachers in non-govt schools and colleges, some of whom are rendering services without due pay/salary even for almost a decade which is clear violation of human rights. Seven funds for establishment of a technical and vocational university for planned skill development to help employment and self-employment generation in the country. The NFTE programme was presided over by Prof. Quazi Faruqe Ahmed and it was attended by among others by Principal Asadul Haq, Md. Azizul Islam,Monira Afroz, Monibur Rahma, Dulal Chowdury, says a press release.
