Jatiya Ganatantrik League
A discussion on International Mother Language Day organised by Jatiya Ganatantrik League was held in the auditorium of Bangladesh Shishu Kalyan Parishad in the city’s Topkhana Road on Saturday. President of Bangabandhu Gabeshana Parishad Lion Gani Mia Babul was present as the chief guest. While speaking Gani Mia stressed upon formulation of list of language heroes. He said Language Movement and perception of the Liberation War are indifferent and inseparable. Gani called upon to introduce Bangla language in all spheres. He also urged all to respect language veterans befittingly. The function was also addressed, among others, by educationist Prof Dr Saheda, Historian Siraj Uddin Ahmed, General Secretary of Bangabandhu Sangskritik Jote Arun Sarker Rana and President of Joy Bangla Mancha Maulana Mufti Masum Billah. President of the organisation MA Jalil presided over the event.
Alumni Assoc of German Universities in Bangladesh
The executive committee of the Alumni Association of German Universities in Bangladesh (AAGUB) has been formed for two years. Professor Dr Rafiqul Islam of Department of Applied Chemistry and Chemical Engineering of Dhaka University (DU) and Chairman of Department of Urban and Regional Planning of Jahangirnagar University Professor Dr Shafiq-Ur- Rahman have been elected as President and General Secretary respectively in the election held recently at Centre for Advanced Research in Sciences of DU. Other office-bearers include Prof Md Mozammel Hoq of DU as Vice-President, Dr Md Salim Khan of BCSIR as Treasurer, Prof Dr Md Forhad Uddin of BUET as Joint Secretary, Prof Dr M Nazmus Sadath of Khulna University as Education and Research Secretary and Mahmudul Hasan of Goethe Institute as Cultural and Publication Secretary. Members are Prof Golam Md Bhuiyan of DU, Prof Md Quamrul Hasan of DU, Dr M Saifur Rahman of Ministry of Environment and Forest, AKM Abul Kalam Azad of Planning Commission, among others.
