Information Minister and Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JSD) President Hasanul Haq Inu said BNP is trying to skip the next national polls making an issue over its Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia’s release from jail. “There is no barrier for BNP to take part in the next general election. The party (BNP) is trying to make Khaleda Zia’s release a pre-condition (for polls),” he said this on Friday while speaking at a meeting after paying tributes to JSD leader Kazi Aref Ahmed on the occasion of his 19th death anniversary in the city. Khaleda Zia has been convicted in Zia Orphanage Trust graft case, Inu said, adding the court will decide her fate. He said JSD is doing politics to free the country from corruption. City Unit (West) President of the party Mainur Rahman presided over the programme. The function was also addressed, among others, by General Secretary of the party Shirin Akhtar.
Wazed Miah Memorial Foundation
A discussion marking the 76th birth anniversary of Dr Wazed Miah organised by Dr MA Wazed Miah Memorial Foundation was held at the Jatiya Press Club. In the programme held on Friday the speakers paid rich tributes to the memory of nuclear scientist late Dr MA Wazed Miah, husband of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, saying that his contribution to the country would be ever remembered. “Dr Wazed Miah was an honest man who also possessed a great personality and humanitarian qualities,” Awami League Advisory Council Member Advocate Yousuf Hossain Humayun told the discussion.The function was also addressed, among others, by lawmaker Nurul Islam Sujan, Bangladesh Krishi Bank Chairman Mohammad Ismail, Kolkata Press Club President Ambar Mukherjee and General Secretary of the foundation Md Moshiur Rahman. President of the foundation AKM Farhadul Kabir presided over the event.
