Work for a Better Bangladesh Trust
A rally jointly organised by Work for a Better Bangladesh (WBB) Trust and Bangladesh Anti-Tobacco Alliance was held in front of the Jatiya Press Club in the city on Thursday with a call to resist impact of tobacco companies in the tax policy. In the programme the speakers demanded to increase prices of tobacco and tobacco products and impose more taxes on tobacco in the next budget in 2018- 2019 fiscal year. The function was addressed, among others, by Executive Director of ‘Basti Unnayan O Karmasahayak Sangstha Hasinur Rahman, Programme Manager of WBB Trust Syeda Ananya Rahman, President of Modern Club Abul Hasnat, Executive Director of PSS Sangstha KM Raqibul Islam Ripon and Member of Anti Tobacco Women Alliance Rokeya Begum. Network Officer of WBB Trust Shuva Karmaker conducted the event. General Secretary of ‘Protyasha’, an anti-tobacco organisation Helal Ahmed presided over the function.
BD Pvt Medical College Assoc
Health and Family Welfare Minister Mohammad Nasim urged the Bangladesh Private Medical College Association (BPMCA) to improve quality of education for creating skilled medical profession. “We will not compromise with medical education. Private medical colleges must provide quality education through ensuring necessary medical equipments,” he made the comment on Thursday when a delegation of BPMCA met with him at his office. Nasim said the government is sincerely working to improve quality of medical education for ensuring better healthcare facilities. He said all private medical colleges are under strict monitoring to comply with conditions of the private medical college policy. “We are overseeing academic activities of all private medical colleges to improve medical education in the country,” the minister added. Nasim said, “Some private medical colleges were set up ignoring conditions of private medical college policy. We are intensifying our efforts to implement private medical college policy to improve medical education and create brilliant physicians in the country.”
