Kabi Sangsad Bangladesh
A discussion on the 20th founding anniversary of Kabi Sangsad Bangladesh was held in the auditorium of Bangladesh Shishu Kalyan Parishad in the city’s Topkhana Road. In the programme held on the twenty third instant the speakers underscored the role of poets for the development and advancement of the country. They said poets are playing pioneering role for the welfare of country and its people. They called upon all to exercise literature for the flourishing of country’s culture and building of happy society. The programme was addressed, among others, by Chairman of the permanent council of the organisation Lion Mohammad Gani Mia Babul, child litterateur Rafiqul Haque Dadu Bhai, President of the organisation Dr Arif Bin Islam, Poet Asad Kazol and Begum Shamsuj Zahan Noor. Poet Bappi Rahman, Poet Faruque Prodhan, Poet Bappi Saha, Akhtar Jahan Mili and Anjuman Ara Sheuly recited their self-composed poems, among others. A cultural function was also held on the occasion.
Bangladesh Awami Hawkers League
A discussion on “Victory Day” organized by Bangladesh Awami Hawkers League was held on Monday at the Jatiya Press Club. In the programme Awami League Publicity and Publication Affairs Secretary Dr Hasan Mahmud was present as the chief guest. While speaking Hasan urged BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia to refrain from terrorist activities and arson attacks in the name of anti-government movement. “Don’t try to carry out any arson attack in the name of movement. People won’t give way right now, if you (BNP) do so”, Hasan added. Hasan, a former Environment and Forest Minister, accused Begum Khaleda Zia of doing mockery with the freedom fighters in a public meeting. “You gave the National Flag to the cars of those who did not want an independent Bangladesh and worked for Pakistan during the 1971 Liberation War”, he mentioned. The AL leader warned of resisting any form of violent activities with the help of people and pro-liberation forces in future. President of the organisation presided over the event. The function was addressed, among others, by Navana Akhter, MP, former Vice-Chancellor of Comilla University Dr Golam Mawla and General Secretary of the organisation Jahed Ali.
