Poush Mela Udjapon Parishad
A three-day ‘Poush Mela’ welcoming the winter season, organised by Poush Mela Udjapon Parishad (PMUP) has begin on the Bangla Academy premises in the city on Friday. PMUP is organizing the Mela (fair) with the assistance of Bangla Academy that will end on December 24 (Sunday), said Bishwajit Roy, General Secretary of the PMUP. Around 50 to 60 stalls have been set up in the fair. The stalls will mainly display traditional winter cakes and artifacts to attract the city dwellers. Different events, including cultural function, will be held during the fair from 8 am to 10 am and 4 pm to 9 pm at the Nazrul Mancha on the Academy premises. Veteran journalist Kamal Lohani, who played a crucial role as a broadcaster of Swadhin Bangla Betar Kendro in 1971, inaugurated the ‘Poush Mela’ as the chief guest. Cultural personality Golam Kuddus presided over the event.
JU Ex-Students Welfare Assoc
A charity show for the former and current students of Jahangirnagar University (JU) who are suffering from life threatening diseases, was held on the campus on Thursday. Suhrid, a Jahangirnagar University Ex-Students Welfare Association organised the function at the Selim Al Din Muktamancha. At the inaugural session of the show, President of Suhrid, the 3rd Batch student of JU Aminur Rahman said, ‘We are working for the former and current students of this university who are suffering from life threatening diseases. We have formed a fund with the help of former students of the university in this regard’. ‘We have already given financial support for treatment to a total of 10 JU students who suffered life threatening disease. Now, we need to enrich the fund and increase our organizational membership to continue this support to the JU students’, he added. Former and running students of JU including Alif, Mati, Nehat and Fatema performed at the cultural session of the charity show. The function was addressed, among others, by Vice-President of the organisation Khandakar Mahbub Elahi and Treasurer Akbar Uddin Ahmed Milon. General Secretary of Suhrid Minhaz Uddin Ahmed Bhuiyan conducted the programme.
