The nine-day long Dhaka International Film Festival organised by Rainbow Film Society will be held in Dhaka from January 12 to 20, 2018 with the theme ‘Better Film, Better Audience and Better Society’. “More than 200 films from 60 countries, including Bangladesh would be screened at the festival, which starts from January 12.” Director of the Festival Committee, Ahmed Mujtaba Jamal briefed the media at a press conference at a city hotel on Saturday. “The films will be screened simultaneously at the several venues in the capital, including main auditorium and Sufia Kamal auditorium of Bangladesh National Museum, Shawkat Osman Auditorium of Central Public Library, Alliance Française de Dhaka, Russian Cultural Centre and Star Cineplex,” he said. As a part of the programme, the 4th Dhaka International Women Film Makers Conference would be held on January 13 and 14 at the auditorium of Alliance Francaise de Dhaka to mark women’s participation in the festival. Besides, 1st Asian Film Critics Assembly would be jointly organised by International Film Critics Association of Bangladesh and International Film Critics Federation on January 15 and 16 next.
Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal
A meeting organised by Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JSD) was held at Bheramara Degree College in Kushtia on Saturday. Information Minister and JSD President Hasanul Haq Inu was present as the chief guest. While speaking Inu termed BNP as a poisonous element in politics and accused it (BNP) of patronizing militants and killers. “BNP has no right to talk about democracy as it is an organization of killers and its Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia is a mastermind of plotting conspiracies,” he added. Inu said BNP chief Begum Khaleda Zia should seek apologize from the countrymen for her misdeeds including killings, torching and conspiracies. The minister said this while addressing a meeting of guardians of the new college students. Earlier, he inaugurated the newly constructed academic building of the college. The function was also addressed, among others, by Upazila Nirbahi Officer, Bheramara Sohel Maruf, JSD Organizing Secretary Abdul Alim Swapon, JSD, Kushtia district unit, President Golam Mahsin. Principal of the college Shamsul Bari presided over the event.
