A round table discussion on Urban DRR; Climate Change Impact in Urban Life and Way Forward was held to outline the urban disaster response issues and the impact of Climate Change in Urban life and way forward at The Daily Star Bhaban yesterday, says a press release .At the discussion , Dr Ishrat Islam, Head of the Department of Urban Regional Planning, BUET said , “If we think about the urban disaster and disaster resilience we cannot leave behind the one-third population living in the urban slums,” . “We have to accommodate the migrated people living in the slum. We have to own them and provide them a better life. We have to empower the city, increase safety and ensure good governance so that everyone is benefitted” said , Nurul Islam Nazem, Professor, Department of Geography and Environment, University of Dhaka. Abdul Latif Helaly, Project Director, Urban Resilience Project, Rajuk discussed the recent projects that the government is implementing and planning for the prospects of the urban life, disaster management, and climate change issues. The session brought out the role of stakeholders in supporting and facilitating more sustainable and inclusive support to the low-income communities.
Dhaka Ahsania Mission
The health assessment programme and seminar on Drug Addiction jointly organised by International University of Business Agriculture and Technology (IUBAT) Nursing Society and Dhaka Ahsania Mission was held at the IUBAT Auditorium recently. The chief guest of the ceremony was Mohammad Jamal Uddin Ahmed, Additional Secretary and DG, Department of Narcotics Control Board. The health assessment programme started at 9 am and it continued until 2 pm. The programme was inaugurated by Dr Abdur Rab, VC of IUBAT. Prof Dr M A Jabber, Registrar, Dr Karen Lund, Senior Adviser, College of Nursing, Dr.A S A Masud, Coordinator, College of Nursing and representative of Dhaka Ahsania Mission were present at the inaugural session. After the inauguration faculty members visited all counters and participated in the programme . At the same time students and staff of IUBAT University started their registration for health cheek up. There were 7 counters for services like registration, checking blood pressure, body mass index, vision test, papillary and capillary refill, medical consultancy by doctor, blood sugar estimation and blood group test. At the end of the program they examined about 300 clients successfully. The seminar on drug addiction started at 3 PM and ended by 5 PM.

Experts from Dhaka Ahsania Mission were the major speakers of the seminar followed by question answer session and sharing of experiences of recovered person of drug addiction. Registrar of IUBAT D M A Jabber gave thanks , says a press release.
 Green University
 
A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between Green University of Bangladesh (GUB) and MTC Global, Bangalore, India at GUB campus recently . Prof Dr. Md. Golam Samdani Fakir, VC , Prof Dr Muhammad Fayyaz Khan, Pro -VC, Md Shahidullah, Treasurer, Prof Dr Md Fayzur Rahman, Dean, Faculty of Science and Engineering, Prof Dr Abdur Razzaque, Chairperson, Department of CSE, Dr Md Afzal Hossain, Chairperson, Department of FTDM, Librarian of GUB were also present. The MoU was signed by Dr Jagannath Biswas, Director , IQAC, Green University of Bangladesh and Prof Bholanath Dutta, President and founder MTC Global. This MoU will strengthen international collaboration and academic excellence in terms of teaching and learning between GUB and MTC Global. The MoU will also cover some important areas like Joint Research, faculty training, students’ and other areas of quality education, says a press release.
