A discussion on ‘House-Transport Rent and Holding Tax: Spiral after Independence’ organised by Natundhara Bangladesh was held at the Jatiya Press Club on Monday. In the programme the speakers bitterly criticised increasing of holding tax. They urged Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to take necessary steps to reduce holding tax. The function was addressed, among others, by Senior Vice-Chairman of the organisation Shanta Farzana, Vice-Chairman Dr Noorjahan Nira, its Senior Joint Secretary General Mahmud Hasan Taher, Joint Secretary General Manir Jaman, its Cultural Affairs Secretary Altaf Hossain Raihan and its Social Welfare Secretary Sheikh Rezaul Karim. Chairman of the organisation Momin Mehedi presided over the event.

Country’s legendary cultural organisation, Bangladesh Udichi Shilpi Gosthi
celebrated its golden jubilee amid much festivity and fanfare in Faridpur. On the occasion, Udichi, Faridpur district unit arranged a programme on the City College premises in the town on the seventeenth instant. The programme included competition of Ganosangeet, discussion, rally, cultural function and prize distributions among the artistes. Deputy Commissioner (DC), Faridpur Ommey Salma Tanzia inaugurated the programme as the chief guest.
The speakers at the function said golden jubilee celebration is undoubtedly a glorious achievement for Udichi which had to pass a long struggle against imperialism, fanaticism and religious bigotry in last couple of decades. Udichi is also playing a pivotal role for establishing a humanitarian and cultural society in the country, they said, hoping no evil force will be able to stop its journey to reach its goal.
The function was addressed, among others, by Advisor of the organisation Rafiquzzaman Layek, its Secretary Chowdhury Hafizur Rahaman Mintu and organiser Uttam Dutta. Artistes of the organisation rendered various songs on the occasion. President of Udichi Shilpi Gosthi, Faridpur Prof Abdul Motaleb presided over the event.
