International Air Transport Association (IATA) is keen to provide all kinds of cooperation in further development of Bangladesh aviation sector especially in the field of airport security, customer care and flight safety. This interest was showed while IATA’s Regional Vice-President Conrad Fredrick James Clifford paid a call on Aviation and Tourism Minister Rashed Khan Menon at the Secretariat in the city on the fourteenth instant. The minister welcomed the IATA’s proposal and said the government has taken all possible steps to ensure airport security and flight safety. The IATA Vice-President said the aviation sector has potential for making huge contribution to the overall economic development of Bangladesh.

A rally marking the UNESCO recognition to the historic 7th March Speech of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman as part of the world’s documentary heritage organised by Jatiya Sramik League was held in front of the Awami League (AL) central office in the city’s Bangabandhu Avenue. AL General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader was present as the chief guest in the programme held recently. While speaking Quader urged BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia to correct herself before asking others to do so but feared nothing could rectify BNP’s misdeeds. “History of BNP politics is of killings, arson attacks and looting. Khaleda Zia has committed numerous sins . . . nothing can purify her now,” he added. About the speech of Bangabandhu, the minister said after the assassination of Bangabandhu on August 15, 1975, a ban was imposed on playing the 7th March speech of Bangabandhu on state-run radio and television.”But the fiery speech of Bangabandhu has now become a property of the world,” he added.
