Communist Party of Bangladesh (CPB) on Monday condoled the death of Nurjahan Begum, editor of country’s first illustrated women’s weekly ‘Begum’. In a condolence message, party President Mujahidul Islam Selim and General Secretary Comrade Syed Abu Jafor Ahmed expressed profound shock at her death and conveyed deep sympathy to the bereaved family members.They recalled the outstanding contribution of Nurjahan to protect the dignity and rights of women and ensure their education and overall progress. Paying due respect to her as one of the pioneers of country’s women movement, the CPB leaders observed that her death was an irreparable loss to nation and people would recall her for long. They also prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul of Nurjahan.
Bangladesh Shikshak Samity
A rally organised by Bangladesh Shikshak Samity was held in front of Jatiya Press Club in the city on Saturday. In the rally the speakers bitterly criticized humiliation of Shyamal Kanti Bhakta, Headmaster of Piyar Sattar Latif High School, Narayanganj. They demanded exemplary punishment to those who are involved in such inhumane activities. The speakers called upon the authority concerned to take necessary steps for the security of the humiliated headmaster. The programme was addressed, among others, by General Secretary of the samity Abul Kashem, its Vice-Presidents Ranjit Kumar Saha, Principal Bazlur Rahman Mia and its Joint General Secretary Kawsar Ali Sheikh. President of Bangladesh Shikshak Samity Muhammad Abu Bakar Siddique presided over the event.
Bangladesh Buddhist Samity
A discussion organised by Bangladesh Buddhist Samity (BBS) was held at Buddhist temple in city’s Uttara on the occasion of Buddha Purnima, a religious festival of the Buddhist community. In the discussion State Minister for Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Moshiur Rahman Ranga was present as the chief guest. While speaking Ranga said Buddha was the symbol of humanity. Lord Buddha played important role to establish peace in the society. The programme was also addressed, among others, by President of the Samity Dipal Chandra Barua and its General Secretary Swapan Barua Chowdhury. The Buddhist devotees offered fruits, flowers and candles to the statue of Lord Buddha on the occasion.
