Bangladesh Muktijoddha Mohajote
A discussion marking the recognition of the historic March 7 Speech of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman as a world documentary heritage by UNESCO was held at the Jatiya Press Club (JPC) in the city on Thursday. Bangladesh Muktijoddha Mohajote (BMM) organised the programme. Food Minister Advocate Qamrul Islam was present at the function as the chief guest. While speaking Qamrul said the next general elections would be held as per the constitution under the present government in free, fair and transparent way. “Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will operate the election-period government as per the constitution and the government will give all-out cooperation to the Election Commission,” he added. Qamrul expressed his thanks to UNESCO for recognising the historic March 7 Speech of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman as a world documentary heritage. President of the organisation Manirul Haque presided over the event. The discussion was also addressed, among others, by JPC President Shafiqur Rahman and Secretary General of the organisation Nazmul Hasan Pakhi.
Hunger Project Bangladesh
A discussion on ‘Strengthening Political Leadership’ organised by Hunger Project Bangladesh, Rajshahi unit in association with Democracy International, USAID and UKAID was held at Naohata Pourasava auditorium under Paba Upazila in Rajshahi. In the programme held recently the speakers said maintaining social harmony is of paramount importance for the sake of institutionalization of democracy besides ensuring good governance everywhere in the society. Responsive and positive role by all quarters including the political leaders has become indispensable for maintaining peace and social harmony for overall development of the nation. For the sake of building the country as peaceful motherland, all conscious, patriotic and peace-loving people should come forward and work together. The function was addressed, among others, by Pourasava Mayor Mokbul Hossain, Upazila Vice-Chairman Ashraful Haque, Pourasava Councilor Azizul Islam and women leader Rahima Khatun. Various other issues like communal harmony, right to information for creating awareness, prevention of violence against women and quality improvement in primary education were discussed elaborately in the programme.
