Thousands of lamps were lit on the premises of Shri Shri Dhakeshwari National Temple in the city on Thursday on the occasion of Shri Shri Shyama Puja and auspicious Deepabali. Mahanagar Sarbajanin Puja Committee organised the programme wishing welfare of the nation and country. Noted economist Debapriya Bhattachariya inaugurated the lamp-lit programme. Kali Puja was held at night. The function was attended, among others, by President of Bangladesh Puja Udjapon Parishad Jayanta Sen Dipu, Prof Dr Nimchandra Bhoumik, journalist Swapon Kumar Saha, Subrata Chowdhury, General Secretary of Mahanagar Sarbajanin Puja Committee Advocate Shyamal Kumar Roy and its Joint General Secretary Ramen Mondal.

A discussion marking the 53rd birth anniversary of Sheikh Russell, the youngest son of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman organised by Bangladesh Awami Muktijoddha Projanma League was held at Swadhinata Hall in the city’s Segunbagicha on Thursday. Awami League Publicity and Publication Secretary Dr Hasan Mahmud was present as the chief guest. While speaking Hasan urged BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia not to create any unstable situation in the country. “Don’t try to create unrest across the country. If BNP tries to do it, people of Bangladesh will give a befitting reply,” he added Hasan alleged that Khaleda Zia held secret meetings in London with a Pakistani intelligence agency and a middle-east-based militant organisation recently only to create chaos across the country. He called upon the countrymen to remain alert against such attempt. “There was a plot to create chaos after arrival of the BNP Chairperson but they (BNP) couldn’t do it as the government and members of the law enforcement agencies remained alert,” he further added. The function was addressed, among others, by General Secretary of Sabujbag thana unit of AL Lion Chitta Ranjan Das, Acting General Secretary of the organisation Sharif Ahmed and its Organising Secretary Khaja Hossain. President of he organisation Asaduzzaman Durjoy presided over the event.
