Sheikh Russell Shishu Sangsad

A tribute paid to Sheikh Russell, youngest son of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman by placing floral wreaths at his grave in the city’s Banani Graveyard on Wednesday marking 53rd birth anniversary of Sheikh Russell organised by Sheikh Russell Shishu Sangsad, a juvenile organisation imbued with the ideology of Bangabandhu and perception of the glorious Liberation War. The artistes of the sangsad also performed at the cultural function organised on the occasion of World Child Day and Children’s Rights Week-2017 held on Tuesday in the auditorium of Bangladesh Shishu Academy. General Secretary of the organisation M Akhter Hossain led all the programmes.

BD Breast Cancer Awareness Forum

A discussion on ‘Breast Cancer: Awareness and Prevention’ organised by Bangladesh Breast Cancer Awareness Forum was held in TSC cafeteria in the city. The speakers in the programme held recently emphasized on early detection of breast cancer and its subsequent proper treatment to prevent the deadly disease in the country. A project namely Strengthening Health, Applying Research Evidence (SHARE) run by icddr,b collaborated the forum in organising the event. Moderator of the programme and Associate Professor of National Cancer Research Institute and Hospital Dr. M Habibullah Talukder Raskin said, “The sufferings caused by the cancer alongside the rate of mortality and morbidity could be reduced to a greater extent through early detection, timely and full-course treatment”.He viewed that breast cancer is a major cause of cancer related mortality of women in developing countries like Bangladesh.The speakers stressed the need for creating awareness against breast cancer and said women of the country are not adequately aware about breast cancer. The function was attended, among others, by Project Director of SHARE Dr ATM Iqbal Anwar, Principal Scientific Officer of the Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research (IEDCR) Dr Mushtuq Husain.
