A discussion on ‘Sheikh Hasian for the Welfare of Humanity’ organised by Asia Chhinnamul Manobadhikar Bastobayon Foundation was held in the auditorium of Bangladesh Shishu Kalyan Parishad in the city’s Topkhana Road on Saturday. Central
President of Bangabandhu Gabeshana Parishad Lion Gani Mia Babul was present as the chief guest in the programme. While speaking Gani demanded immediate implementation of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s five-point proposal announced in the 72nd session of the United Nations General Assembly. He urged world leaders to be vocal to send back Rohingya refugees in Myanmar immediately. The function was also addressed, among others, by former State Minister for Home Advocate Shamsul Haque Tuku and Acting Secretary General of the organisation Ershad Khan. Chairman of the foundation Dulal Miah presided over the event.
Mukundalal Sarker Memorial Sangsad
A memorial meeting on the 38th death anniversary of Mukundalal Sarkar organised by Mukundalal Sarker Memorial Sangsad was held at the deceased’s younger son journalist Ajit Kumar Sarkar’s Dhanmondi residence in the city on Friday. In the function the speakers said Mukundalal Sarker, a valiant freedom fighter and prominent leader of the anti-British Movement, struggled his entire life for establishing rights of the distressed people in the society. They said Mukundalal Sarker played an important role in building a strong resistance against all oppressions and actively participated in the movement against Zamindar system. He was detained several times for his role against British rule.
Sree Sarker was also involved in people’s welfare related activities such as building educational institutions, construction of roads and canal digging that made him very
popular to the local people,, they added. The programme was addressed, among others, by Post and Telecommunications Secretary Shyam Sundar Sikder, Additional Secretary of ICT Division Subir Kishore Chowdhury and Additional Secretaries of Finance Ministry Arijit Chowdhury.and Manik Chandra Dey, Managing Editor of Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha Shahriar Shaheed and Executive Director of Bangladesh Computer Council Swapan Kumar Sarker. Freedom fighter Ismat Kadir Gama presided over the event.
